Once again, the Boston Convention center was bustling with a menagerie of gamers and cosplayers, as well as a significant amount of tabletop gamers. While this day was not as busy for me compared to Thursday or Friday, I was still able to get my hands on a few impressive titles that you should keep your eyes on.
Outshine – Fishing Cactus / PID Games
If you are a fan of games such as Typing of the Dead, then you’ll feel right at home with Outshine. You will be typing out words to overcome scattered obstacles and defeat multicolored enemies that circulate around the holograph looking roadway. You’ll also use a shield as well as shift buttons to avoid damage from unavoidable hazards. There are multiple difficulties based on your words-per-minute typing skills, a mysterious storyline, and slick graphics filled with neon lights and detailed particle effects.
I enjoyed my time with the demo for Outshine as it really put my typing skills to the test. I can see myself going back to this one every so often as long as my carpal tunnel syndrome doesn’t flare up.
Outshine releases sometime in 2022 for PC.
Superfuse – Stich Heads Entertainment / Raw Fury
Do you like action RPGs? Do you like talent trees? Good, because Superfuse has so many talents and abilities that you can modify as you progress through the game. Certain builds walk along the razer’s edge of being grandiose and overpowering while always remaining fun. Having the ability to put talent points in a multitude of areas allowed me to modify an attack in so many ways that felt unique, adding area of effect damage type or applying status effects to your techniques that may not have these features. There are additional wildcard spots where you can socket in other abilities to create even more options for your build.
Superfuse also has an engaging story complete with great voice acting with talents such as Eli Harris who helped bring a new vision to the game. If you are fan of comic books and intense role-playing games, Superfuse is the game for you!
While no release date is officially announced, Superfuse will go into Steam Early Access down the road.
Isonzo – Blackmill Games / M2H
The third installment of the long running WW1 online multiplayer first-person shooter series, Isonzo puts you on the Italian Front where you and your team must complete objectives and defeat your foes. You have several classes to play, each with their own unique loadout that can be adjusted upon respawn. You are equipped with historically accurate weapons and equipment while perks allow you to modify your playstyle.
Consisting of a huge battlefield, Isonzo is dissected into portions that players push through, opening new objectives such as blowing up a train and preventing the enemy from gaining their necessary supplies. Destructible environments allow you to turn the tides of battle, forcing your foes to funnel into tactical vantage points. The maps have been expertly crafted using drone technology to give you an accurate portrayal of history.
Isonzo is set to release sometime in 2022.
We Were Here Forever – Total Mayhem Games
Enter the mountains of madness with We Were Here Forever, the fourth installment of the co-op puzzle solving game that uses a unique walkie-talkie mechanic as a form of communication. Pressing the right-click on the mouse allowed you to talk, but the other person is not able to, just like standard radios. You must solve over 20 unique puzzles that require cooperation and patience. If I told you anything more, it would be a spoiler. If you like co-op puzzles, this is a must play.
Check out We Were Here Forever on May 10th, 2022.
LEGO Brick Tales – ClockStone / Thunderful Publishing
LEGO Brick Tales is a Zen-like title that forces you to use your imagination to complete various puzzles. You’ll use a wide range of bricks to construct bridges, pathways, stairs, and more! You travel through a map and hit building points that will allow you to construct the item you need to get to the next task.
It is lighthearted, serene, and a peaceful experience that keeps the player on the edge of their seat as they summon a testing robot to ensure the structural integrity of your build is fundamentally sound.
LEGO Brick Tales releases sometime in 2022.
Power Chord – Big Blue Bubble
Music is a weapon in Power Chord, a title that has your band face-off against the demons of hell using roguelite deck building mechanics. Each member of the band has a specific role with cards representing the abilities of each respective band member. You can mix and match abilities to release a torrent of damage upon the demons, rewarding you with various items and additional cards upon their demise.
Power Chord does not have a set release date, but you can play the demo of it on Steam right now!
While PAX East is a 4-day event, Steve is only attending three of them as many companies are starting close shop and get ready for a week of follow ups. Stay tuned to Seasoned Gaming as we will also have additional previews, reviews, and more!
