Ubisoft to Shut-Down XDefiant, Layoff More Teams

In another disappointing announcement for the online-shooter genre, Ubisoft has announced that XDefiant will be shutting down in summer of 2025. Additionally, they will be restructuring some associated teams resulting in further layoffs.


In the formal announcement from Ubisoft Creative Director Mark Rubin, which you can find below, they announce the following:

  • XDefiant will shut down on June 3, 2025. As of today, it will no longer accept new player registrations.
  • Season 3 content will still be released at a future date as it is complete.
  • Players who purchased the Ultimate Founder’s Pack or any content within the last 30 days will be fully refunded.

With the restructure of the development and support teams, Ubisoft has announced changes to their San Francisco, Sydney, and Osaka locations. According to reports, 143 employees will be let-go from their San Francisco office and 134 people from Osaka and Sydney. Remaining team members will be shifted to other projects.
